The Loughborough Christmas Committee A Great Way To Give To Others In Your Community

This Christmas, as it has for many years, the Loughborough Christmas Committee will assemble over 55 generous-sized food hampers for area families in need. Each hamper will include a new toy and a book for every child in the family.
Run by a small core of Sydenham volunteers, the Christmas Committee is a non-denominational registered charity that also maintains a food bank, and is available to help children and families with emergency needs throughout the year. It has no government funding once a year, in late November, a letter or notice goes out to all area residents asking for a (tax-deductible) donation. The only other fund raiser is their once-a-year beer bottle drive.
As well, the area schools pitch in. Each classroom at Loughborough Public School fills a hamper with canned goods and treats, while the SHS students donate a large amount of new and gently-used toys.
As the committees work is done by volunteers, 100 % of all donations go straight to the recipients. Confidentiality is respected; only one committee member knows the names of the recipient families.
Anyone who needs help this Christmas, or who wishes to lend a hand with shopping, sorting and packing can call 376-3532, and leave a message on the machine.
