I recently read a quote by Marthe Troly-Curtin "Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time."
And somehow, came to the conclusion that Volunteering is the ultimate format of wasting time. See, instead of spending every hour of one's day building businesses, volunteers willingly choose to work without financial compensation.
And with that choice comes a happiness that only volunteers understand. A happiness that the members of our Lions Club of Land O’ Lakes felt everyday this summer.
From setting up the Farmer's Market week after week, to squeezing tens of lemons for thirsty visitors, selling Catch the Ace tickets, calling bingo, counting tickets at euchre, cooking for the club, typing minutes of meetings, frying eggs and barbecuing hotdogs, picking bottles, supporting the Foodbank and many others. Endless moments where we perfected the art of wasting time in the ultimate joy of volunteering.
And now, with fall approaching, we plan to continue in our quest to waste our time, and drive the happiness that comes with that. What can you expect? Paint Nights and Pub Trivia Nights, another round of the Farmer's Market, the hanging of the Remembrance Day Memorial Banners, Halloween crafts, preps for the arrival of Santa, and so much more. I, for one, am smiling while I think of those, the joys of volunteering linger as happy moments in my heart. A time well wasted.
Till we meet again in a Roar, waste time. Find all the things that make you happy and do them, don't mind the time; and meet us at the hall in Northbrook on the 20th of September for Paint Night.
