The long-awaited senior school board staff response to a recommendation that a new comprehensive school be built to replace Sharbot Lake Public School, Sharbot Lake High School, and Hinchinbrooke Public School in Parham will be presented to a School Board committee on January 25.
That initial recommendation was made in August by the Program and Accommodation Review Committee (PARC) for the so-called Sharbot Lake family of schools in the Limestone District School Board.
The Sharbot Lake PARC, which included parents and staff from five schools in the region, also called for Clarendon Central Public School in Plevna and Land O'Lakes Public School in Mountain Grove to remain open.
The response from senior Limestone District School Board staff had been expected back in October, but the school board had to go back to the Ministry of Education to clarify the funding commitment for a new school before drafting their response.
The staff report, as well as the original PARC report, will be presented to a public meeting sometime after January 25, and a final decision will subsequently be made by the Board of Trustees of the Limestone Board.
The January 25 meeting of the school enrolment/school capacity committee of the board will not be debating the staff response, but staff will be available to answer questions of clarification.
The meeting is scheduled for the school board office on Portsmouth Avenue in Kingston at 6:00 pm on Monday, January 25.
