School bus accident on Cronk Road On the way home from school from Hinchinbrooke Public School on Friday Oct. 11, an accident took place , leaving this school bus and a car in the ditch. Seven patients (bus driver Alberta Peters, 4 students, and the driver and passenger of the car), were treated and transported by paramedics to Kingston General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Mary Stinson, the owner of the bus, said that the most serious injury was to Alberta Peters, who suffered two broken wrists. Peters was released from hospital late Friday night, but returned several times on the weekend, finally having corrective surgery on Sunday. She will have casts on both arms for at least eight weeks, and her recovery may take longer. Within 10 minutes of the accident, the Parham ambulance was on the scene, as were the police. As well, the vice principal and principal of the school arrived quite quickly, which was a great help, according to paramedic David Gemmill. "The school was able to take responsibility for the children. those that required it were sent to hospital, and the rest were sent home on a spare bus that they brought with them," he said. As to the cause of the accident, neither the bus company nor the paramedics felt at liberty to discuss the cause, and there is as of yet no information from the OPP. As well, the school has not responded officially, since the accident took place at the beginning of the holiday weekend.
