Frontenac Flyers in jeopardyby Josee TannerAfter a disappointing turnout of about 15 people at the emergency public meeting on April 8, the future of the local junior hockey team is uncertain. Sponsorship and support for the team was down this season, while costs rose.

Another meeting will be held next Tuesday, April 15, at the Frontenac Arena at 7:00 p.m. in the hope that more people willing to take on directorships will come forward. If more people are working to keep the Flyers viable, the current directors feel sponsorship and support could improve dramatically.

Running a junior program is expensive, and the amount of money a team is able to procure reflects on the ice and helps keeps local players on the team. Since the creation of the junior team, younger players in the sport have had mentors to look up to, and a goal to work towards. The team is also a boon for the North Frontenac Arena as well, providing income, but if the Flyers are forced to fold, all that will be lost.

It will take hard work and effort to give the fans something to cheer about next year, but if enough people who are ready to help appear at next weeks meeting, the team will hold on.

Please help the Flyers.
