South Frontenac Election 03

In Mondays election, Bill Lake edged out Fran Willes in a close race for mayor. Willes led in Loughborough and Bedford, and trailed by only (Number, please, Jeff!) votes in Portland: it was Lakes home district of Storrington that brought him into the lead.

Incumbents Robinson and Smith were returned in Portland, as well as Hahn and Stowe in Bedford, and Barr in Storrington. Newcomers to council are Peter Roos in Storrington, and Gary Davison and Ron Vandewal in Loughborough. Ken Gilpin will be Limestone District School Board representative.

All positions were contested, with several of the races very close. The mail-in vote seemed to help bring in more cottage voters, but voter turn-out was still poor to moderate.

The new council will be sworn in Tuesday December 2, at Sydenham. They will soon be looking for volunteers for various committees dealing with recreation, land use, public safety, etc. This is a good time to consider offering a few hours a month to help the people weve elected.
