LAND O' LAKES NewsWeb HomeFire Chief for South FrontenacAt last weeks council meeting, South Frontenac township council approved in principle the hiring of a Fire Chief to oversee the townships Fire department, and a subsequent fire committee meeting has also approved the idea, which will come back to council in early July.
A bylaw has been in place in South Frontenac since earlier this year, establishing a central fire department. Hiring a full-time fire Chief will give the department a focus, according to township Chief Administrative Officer Gord Burns.
The Fire Chief will be the one individual who will be responsible to the township as a whole for the Fire Service. The Fire Chiefs for each districts fire Department will become deputy fire chiefs if council goes ahead and establishes the position of Fire Chief, Burns said.
There is no implication in this move towards any change in the area rating system in South Frontenac. Fire services will still be funded through the four district budgets, and not by the township as a whole.
