Cloyne antique dealer discovers important stamp collectionby Ellanora Meeks Local antique dealer Steve Lancaster of Cloyne has found an amazing American stamp collection. The collection contains every first flight that was ever made across the United States of America from the late 20's to the late 30's. They contain articles of history from the Franklin Roosevelt Collection, and early signed letters by Jessie Armstrong and Amelia Earhart. There are stamps of Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965); also stamps of Amelia Earhart, information on the Lindenberg flights, and documents dated back to 1835! There are over 150 original letters and autographs of great historical pilots. The collection is currently being appraised by Sotheby's of New York, and the sky's the limit! There are letters that have never been opened. Perhaps they contain important history. The collection also contains approximately 3,000 other mint stamps and envelopes. Steve Lancaster has been collecting for 22 years, and has had many exciting finds, including a collection of 120 Canadian paintings, which are now in national and international galleries. Three years ago Steve Lancaster bought the Anglican church in Cloyne, which he and his partner Ian Froom converted into an antique store. They had many antique dishes, antique furniture, etc. Steve has recently sold the store and will be buying antiques on an international scale, starting with a spring trip to England. For more information on this collection, you may contact Steve at R. R. #2, Cloyne, Ont. K0H 1K0
