The legacy of Walkerton keeps haunting municipal politicians, and it came up again this week at a North Frontenac Council Meeting when The Twin Cedars Camping and Cottages Resort made an application to council for approval of a new septic system.
However, township clerk/administrator Penny Sharman informed council of a Ministry of the Environment stipulation that all Private Sewage Works with a capacity of over 10,000 litres are ultimately the responsibility of the township. If the new sewage system fails, it is possible council and councillours as individuals may be liable for any damages that could result.
Mayor Stan Johnson said, We need a letter before we can approve this. He added, I dont see how people are going to keep running for office under these circumstances.
TIMBER MANAGEMENT - Deputy Mayor Gleva Lemke reported on a meeting of the Mazinaw-Lanark Timber Management Group. The group has determined that 2 million cubic feet of lumber blew down from last summers microburst.
TAX BILLS DELAYED As a result of complications arising from bringing in new accounting software, interim tax bills, which were scheduled to be mailed out at the end of March, will be delayed until April 11, reported Treasurer Cheryl Robson.
