Bumper year for constructionby Will CybulskiAccording to numbers provided recently by the Building Department for North Frontenac Township, 2002 has proven to be one of the best years on record in recent years.

A report provided to municipal council at its meeting on January 13 indicates that, with a total tally of 220, practically one building permit per working day was issued during the year. Permit fees for 2002 came out at $67, 540, with building construction values set at almost $5.2 million. The permit types were divided between three residences, 38 seasonal residences, 54 additions, 57 accessory buildings, 38 decks, and 30 others, including woodstoves and plumbing.

Council heard that construction values over the past five years have averaged about $3 million annually, thereby making 2002 a bumper year.

Mayor Stan Johnston was obviously pleased with the departments performance, stating that 2002s permit fees covered costs plus a little extra. Before, they were about 25%. In another Building Department matter brought to the table earlier in the meeting, the Mayor said of Chief Building Official Ken Lindey, Ive worked with a number of building inspectors over the years, and hes one of the best weve had.
