Technology program at Sydenham High School wins awardby Jeff Green The Technology Studies Program at Sydenham High School has been selected by the Canadian Information Productivity Award (CIPA) as having one of the best applications in information management in the country. Sydenham High School is one of 22 organizations selected by CIPA for this years national Awards of Excellence. This is the first time that a high school technology program will receive such an award. It is the highest form of recognition for an organization's outstanding capabilities in the strategic use of information technology.

Sydenham High School is being recognized for its innovative e-Learning centre which includes the Robo-Ontario web site (interactive on-line robotics), the weather cam (current on-line weather information), the Rural Virtual School (on-line high school courses), EduNet (an on-line literacy program) and video conferencing for students.

The e-Learning centre at Sydenham High School is led by teachers Dick Hopkins and Brian Rombough.

Ruth Bailey, Superintendent of Education and Senior Advisor to the LDSB School Technology Program says innovative programs like on-line learning are about providing educational opportunities for students. We have been working extremely hard at developing and delivering better access for our rural students.

CIPA President and CEO Robert Livingstone said. "It's not about flashy web sites--it's about doing things faster, more accurately and with greater knowledge, in ways that make our economy stronger."

CIPA will present Dick Hopkins and Brian Rombough with their awards during a Gala Banquet in Toronto on November 27.
