Local winners of the Sharbot Lake Dragsby Kristin RideoutOn Saturday March 23, the snowmobile drag races were held in Sharbot Lake, with 283 participants. There were many people who came from all over, and also many from the local area who had come to see and participate in the races. Two of them were Don Truelove from Cloyne, who won the Ice 800 pro stock, and came in second for: Ice 800 modified, Ice 1000 modified, and King of the Ice; also Jonathon DesRoche from Sharbot Lake, who won the 800 Single Pipe.

Don Truelove has been racing snowmobiles as a hobby for 15 years. Just recently he raced in North Bay and Spencerville, where he came in second. Don likes carnival racing because its lots of fun, theres more classes, and its not as expensive, making it easier to adjust his sled so that he can participate in more races. He also loves it because he knows a lot of the local people. They all get along, but theres still the competitiveness, which just makes the day more exciting, he said. Don enjoys coming to the Sharbot Lake Drag Races and always has a great time with his son, who helps him out. Don loves the time they spend together. When he isnt racing, he does carpentry work in the Cloyne area. Jonathon DesRoche, 22, won the 800 single pipe. Even though it was his very first time drag racing, he has been riding snowmobiles for many years and has been to other races as a spectator. Jonathons friend Giller, who helped him work on his sled, plans to race next year as well. Jonathon went to college at Lindsay in forestry, and is now working at the nuclear power plant in Bowmanville. During his spare time he likes to go ice fishing and ride snowmobiles. He says that he loves the outdoors. He is also looking to get a license to do electrical work. Jonathon loves the rush of the races and would do it again in a heartbeat. Other locals who won trophies were: MacKenzie Hart, Ken Babcock Jr., Andrew Hillier, Brian Young, Kurtis Jackson, Joe Asselstine, and Scott Cowdy.
