New recipe for meals on wheels in Kaladar-Cloyne areaby Will Cybulski Northbrook Starting October 24th, the Meals On Wheels program in the Kaladar-Cloyne area will come under the tutelage of some new, but well experienced, chefs.

For the past four years that the program has been offered, its Thursday noon time meal has been quite capably prepared by staff at Pine Meadow Nursing Home. As the end of the month approaches, however, volunteer cooks who are currently active with the Tuesday Adult Drop-In program will start rustling up their favourite and finest recipes. Meal preparation will take place at Barrie Township Hall in Cloyne, and delivery will carry on as usual.

Pam Lemke, who oversees MOW as part of Land OLakes Community Services Community Support Program, said that the once-weekly hot lunch is available to those who are 55 years of age or more, are recuperating from surgery, or have an illness or physical disability. The intent of Meals On Wheels is to keep its recipients active and independent, and the lunches can be ordered either short or long term.

MOW is not a charity program, nor is it a social services freebie. Participants pay a set fee that is deemed to be reasonable and affordable, considering that the meal usually consists of, at minimum, soup, bread, an entr with side dishes, and a dessert. And it is delivered hot to your doorstep!

Pam wanted to ensure that staff at Pine Meadow were publicly thanked for their assistance and input to the program, as the service they provided has been invaluable. However, the number of people who presently partake of Meals On Wheels is relatively low, so it is anticipated that the change-over will allow for a bit more flexibility in custom tailoring meals to the individual tastes of the programs clients. If you are interested in finding out if you qualify for the Meals On Wheels service, please call Pam at LOLCS, 336-8934.
