Ryan Demorest at the OFFSA track finals

By David Brison

Ryan Demorest finished 5th in his heat in the midget mens 100 metre dash at the OFFSA finals held on May 31 at Etobicoke Centennial Stadium in Metropolitan Toronto. His time in the heat of 11:98 put him squarely in the middle of the pack (13th) of the 24 elite runners from across Ontario who competed in the event.

His finish is even more remarkable considering that he had not ever started from the blocks before his first race this season at the KASSA meet in Kingston which he won with a time of 11:33.

If he had been able to replicate that time, he would have finished in the top three at OFFSA. However, consistency comes with training, and he was competing against many experienced sprinters who train year-round against top-flight competition.

The future for Ryan looks bright particularly if he can compete this summer and learn some of the intricacies of sprinting.
