CF Railway Museum meeting nets $800By David BrisonThe board of the new Central Frontenac Railway Museum Corporation presented a report to an open, and well-attended meeting at the Oso Community Hall in Sharbot Lake on Friday Sept. 20. There was also a silent auction of donated gifts from the community. About $600 was raised through the auction and approximately $200 more through new memberships. Chairman Mike Driscoll reported that non-profit corporation status has been granted and that they are now applying for a charitable designation so that tax deduction receipts can be issued to donors. He thanked the Sharbot Lake Friday night ladies for funding the corporation application. Driscoll also thanked lawyer Peter Graham of Rural Legal Services for helping at all stages with the corporation application.Rail_Museum Mike Driscoll preparing to answer questions at the Railway Museum meeting. -photo David Brison Treasurer Gary Cooke gave a financial report - Gary has been placing donation jars around Sharbot Lake and has also set up displays to sell postcards with a picture of the original railway museum. There was some discussion about progress towards building the museum. The Central Frontenac Council is investigating ownership of the two lots the museum would be built on. Council reportedly would have to be convinced that the museum could support itself if it were built and not be dependant on municipal funding. Board member Larry Chiarot is looking into sources of funding. Gary Cooke is just itching to get charitable status so that he can add to his already impressive collection of railway artifacts through donated gifts. Some, according to Gary, have already been offered by CP. Board members stressed that the concept of the museum - what it would look like and how it would operate - is still in the planning stages. They would welcome ideas from anyone.
