Summerfest provides a full day and night of fun in Plevnaby Vie McInnes Plevna_Summerfest The annual Summerfest at Plevna on Saturday, July 13 was a great success. Hundreds attended and enjoyed the many activities, and the day couldnt have been better, with lovely sunshine all day.

There were lots of hungry people at the Pancake and Sausage Breakfast in the morning, and the girls in the kitchen did a wonderful job cooking everyone a yummy breakfast!! The Big Top Tent had activities going on all day, and there were craft and bake tables. U.C.W had baking and miscellaneous items, and Evangeline Hermer looked after another bake table for the ladies from the Catholic Church. Gail Vernick from Griffith displayed her lovely angels and many innovative items made from denim. Lana Klatt and Rhonda Stevens kept the kids entertained with their games and each child got a little prize. Both Lana and Rhonda are getting married soon, Rhonda on July 22, and Lana, in the fall. The Weekender table also displayed beautiful knitted items by Diane Godwin of Big Gull Lake. Peter and Debby Kiss from Ardoch, owners of Toggleberry Farms, displayed a great range of items, all made from natural materials and goats milk. Marian and Carl Hertendy of Star Ceramics did a brisk business all day with their ceramics. Children and big folks too, seem to love to paint the varied items they make. Marian and Carl are now living on the Poonamallie Road near Port Elmsley.

At one oclock the Horse Draw started, but at this time I do not have any details on that. I just noted that there was a big crowd watching and there seemed to be lots of horses and drivers.

The Ajax Hometown Cloggers performed, and looked great with their red sweaters and black pants! Two of the performers, Irene and Ray (Mrs. Irene!!) Doaks are well known here, as they come for holidays to Farm Lake and to visit Norm and Vie Martin, Fernleigh. The group did several dances - very precise and lovely to watch. The band, Red Rose Express, from near Kingston, played for several hours. Later in the afternoon, Land of Lakes Cloggers took over with a good performance. This group has some local cloggers, and Joyce Lemke is their teacher. They have not been clogging for long, but did a commendable job. To finish it off, the two groups joined for a final dance and received a great round of applause.

The Firemen had been busy most of the afternoon barbecuing chicken, and when the supper started, the Fire Auxiliary ladies were kept very busy for several hours, serving the chicken, salads, buns, etc. and lots of different kinds of pies.

The evening finished off with a dance, with music by Red Rose Express, and the raffle ticket for the lovely Loon quilt was drawn. The lucky winner was June Watkins from Ardoch, and when Ed (Eds Place, Ardoch) presented it to her, he said he thought she might have a heart attack, she was so surprised!! This was a very rewarding day, and the Firefighters and Ladies Auxiliary would like everyone to know how grateful they are to all the many people who helped. It couldnt have been done without all of you. Thank you.
