Community Training Courseby Will Cybulski Northbrook - Pam Lemke, who co-ordinates the Community Support Program for Land O'Lakes Community Services here, would like to make the public aware of an upcoming training course. This opportunity, run in conjunction with Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington's Palliative Care Education Project, targets personal and home support workers, volunteers and community members. The course will start on October 2, and sessions will take place once weekly, each Wednesday, until completion on November 27. The training focuses on communication and family dynamics, emotional, spiritual and end-of-life issues, ambulance service, elder abuse, power of attorney, grief and bereavement, and how to make funeral arrangements. "It is understandable that individuals might initially be a bit squeamish in thinking about these sorts of things", Lemke said, "but someday, it is likely that we will all find ourselves facing at least one of them. At that unfortunate point, without any knowledge or support systems in place, it may seem impossible to deal with those issues". The location of the training will be the board room at Community Services, 13 Airport Road in Northbrook, and instruction will be given between 1 and 3 PM. Past courses have filled quickly, making space for the popular seminars limited, so early registration is recommended. To sign up for this no-charge training course, for which certificates will be issued, please call Pam at LOLCS at 336-8934.
