Reality musings interruptedBy Bill RowsomeToday I cannot muse on several things:

On the war of words in the libraries of Addington Highlands as fellow human beings turned airplanes into bombs and rode them into the heart of a city;

On the efforts of our northern councils to extinguish fires in their fire halls while the lower half of Manhattan Island erupted in flames;

On the local infestation of mice and chipmunks when human monsters have penetrated and destroyed a core of civilization;

On our vain attempts to disguise aging and update styles while rescuers are emerging caked in blood and dust from the tomb of thousands dead;

On the beginning of the school year when little Irish youngsters were intimidated by curses and violence as they tried to walk to school.

Not even the unusual quietness of the Mazinaw Lake shore can counter the turmoil in my heart and mind. What has been wrought and why?

My hope is that the little children beginning school this fall may overcome these hates and pull this crazy world back into a civilized mode. That, I realize, depends upon us as parents and teachers.
