Journalism With a Biting Edge

By David Brison

Our strategy when we took over the paper was to lull you, our readers, into a sense of complacency with interesting but safe stories about our communities. Having reached that point, we want to venture out with some risky and more controversial views that we hope will stir up some interest.

This issue is our first big attempt at what might be termed "journalism with a biting edge". We did get our toes wet last week in our Mazinaw Musings column. Bill Rowsomes view that Foot in the Mouth disease can be prevented by putting both feet in our mouths certainly is an example of "biting edge" journalism.

We continue this week with an investigative piece on amalgamation by David Brison; the revelation that Sharbot Lake might have been named Shabbat Lake at one time (Jeff Green); a report on the origin of Myers Cave from Will Cybulski; and a new guest columnist: Maizie. Our reporters also chip in with a number of unlikely tales, (but then that isnt anything new for them).

So dont believe everything you read, though some of it is true. (`Actually, we ourselves dont even know what is and isnt!)
