Friends and relatives say goodbye to Hilda

By David Brison

The funeral service for Hilda Geddes was held at the Snow Road Presbyterian Church on March 16. Friends and relatives gathered at the church, where Hilda had played the organ and directed the choir for more than 75 years, to celebrate a life that contributed greatly to her community.

Elva Jackson, a neighbour, literary friend Michael Dawber, Reverend Hill, a former pastor of the Snow Road Church, and niece Jean Kelly, all recounted how Hilda had touched their lives directly, contributed to the community, and left a legacy of the history of the area both written and oral.

"Hilda was an extraordinary woman," Elva Jackson said in her tribute. "She was a born story-teller everything she said became vital and alive laughter came easily to Hilda She was a woman of great courage She bore her illness with such dignity and grace."

Reverend Hill summed up everybodys thoughts with the comment, "Hilda, you have made a difference. Well done, good and faithful servant."
