Benefit dance in support of cold water rescue equipmentBy David BrisonThe Friday Night Ladies (Ladies of a night?) have organized a dance to raise money for the new basket sled that will be housed at the Oso District fire department in Sharbot Lake. Although they have taken the initiative, the rest of the community has chipped in to help. The fire department is running the bar; St. James has donated the use of the hall; the Ontario Trails Council has purchased the liquor permit; Barb England and the Sharbot Lake Snow Riders are taking care of the food; the Katimavikers are setting up and taking down the tables; Diane McCullough is distributing the posters and is doing the marketing; Susan Wing is in charge of the door prizes; and Mary Chiarot is the ticket distributor.

It is truly a community effort. One of the organizers of the dance said, It seems like people from the whole community are jumping in and saying that they would like to help.

However, the real story could well be that, as fundraising by community groups had fallen $1200 to $1500 short of the amount needed for the sled, the Friday Night Ladies made up the shortfall out of their own pockets so that the sled could be purchased before the cold water rescue season started.

The dance will be on February 2 at the St. James Hall. The Red Rose Express will provide the music, and there will be a cash bar, a buffet, and door prizes. Tickets ($10 per person) can be purchased at the Sharbot Lake Country Inn, Bobs Petrocan, and the Tip Top Dollar Store.
