North Frontenac reshuffles the administrative deck

by Jeff Green

When Penny Sharman resigned as Clerk/Planner from North Frontenac Township three weeks ago, it left Council with some decisions to make. Council resolved that Jack MacNamee, the acting clerk, and Mayor Ron Maguire would consider how to proceed.

MacNamee had been hired on a temporary basis to replace Sharman, who was on a leave of absence when she tendered her resignation. He was not interested in seeking a permanent position with the township.

In looking at the staff complement and the duties being performed, MacNamee and Maguire decided to create four new positions: Chief Administrative Officer/Treasurer, Clerk Administrator/Planner, Deputy Clerk, and Deputy Treasurer.

These new positions do not mean we will be increasing our staffing complement, Maguire told the News, They are just a different breakdown of duties that we hope will lead to efficiencies for the township.

Through an internal hiring process, three of the four positions have already been tentatively filled, subject to ratification by Council, and the position of Deputy Clerk is being advertised externally.

The changes to the administrative structure will take effect on December 6.
