Fire at Bravo Restaurant

Fire_at_bravo_restaurantAt around midnight on Tuesday Feb. 10, someone driving on Highway 38 noticed smoke coming from the back of the Bravo restaurant, located just south of Verona, and called the fire department. It was a good thing they did, because crews from Hartington and Verona were on the scene quickly and found a fire within the storage area at the back of the building. Within ten minutes the fire was out.

Unfortunately, even though the fire was confined to the northwest corner of the building, there was extensive damage to the back area and the roof of the restaurant. As well, there was water damage from fire hoses in the main area of the restaurant.

South Frontenac Fire Chief Rick Cheseborough said that six trucks, including 2 pumpers and 4 tankers, and 20 firefighters were on the scene. They did a good job containing the fire and saving the building. It was very fortunate that a passer-by noticed the smoke and phoned when they did.

Cheseborough said crews were going to be trying to determine the cause of the.

Bravo restaurant, under the ownership of Melissa Shanks and Kevin Thatcher has developed into an important community meeting place for a diverse group of people from the local area. Last fall, the restaurant hosted a free dinner for all its loyal customers at the Lions Hall, even bringing in a band to perform. The hat was passed for donations, and all the money went into Christmas bonuses for the restaurant staff. It may now be time for support to flow the other way.
