Rec Committee to determine North Frontenac soccer interest

To ascertain if there is sufficient interest in bringing the game of soccer to North Frontenac, the Townships recreation committee will be hosting a public meeting on Tuesday, March 9 at the Clar-Mil Hall in Plevna. The meeting will begin at 6 pm, and there will representatives present to speak on the successful Cloyne soccer league.

Malcolm Sampson, who has previously been deeply involved with soccer and has started doing a good deal of potential league legwork in the Arden-Sharbot Lake areas, has agreed to bring his expertise to the meeting as well.

The Municipal Recreation Committee will not be operating the soccer program per se if one does get off the ground; rather, it sees itself in the role of facilitator. The March 9th meeting is a starting point, and whether or not the committee carries on from there will depend on the amount of interest shown from within the community.

Having our children wanting to play the game is one thing, but there will be a need for adult support in the form of coaches and referees. We can quickly come up with suitable facilities or equipment; we have a good number of young people to draw from and soccer seems to be the popular game of the day, but we do need that support from within to make this fly.

Soccer is not an expensive game for parents or caregivers; it will certainly provide an avenue for exercise, and the plan is to start small (likely mini-soccer to begin) and work our way up. This is intended to be a co-ed venture so that all our children have an opportunity to join in.

For our senior students who havent completed their 40 hours of Community Involvement necessary for secondary school graduation, being a part of coaching or refereeing would be a great way to contribute as you fulfil those required hours.

If you are in support of soccer opportunities within North Frontenac Municipality, please come out to the meeting prepared to commit to an active role. Hope to see YOU there.
