NFCS NOTES

The membership of Northern Frontenac Community Services elected its new Board at the Annual General Meeting this autumn. One of the jobs of a Board Member is to be aware of what the community thinks of the job that we are doing. Here is a list of our current Board Members, and the communities they come from. If you have any comments or concerns about our organization, any Board Member would be interested to hear them: Brenda Piat, Tichborne; Linda Chappel, Mississippi; Tom Ham, Parham; Jim Scott, Arden; Keith Conboy, Sharbot Lake; Jeff Green, Sharbot Lake; Marilyn Mallett, Parham; Gloria Morrison, Snow Road; Guy Lombart, Sharbot Lake; Scott Black, Hartington.

We are particularly pleased to welcome our two new Board Members. Guy Lombart retired to our area five years ago, after a career in finance. He has been a very active volunteer with our organization already. Scott Black moved with his young family to the Hartington area in 2001, from the North West Territories (he was in the Guelph area before that). Scott is now a full time father, and became aware of our organization by attending a playgroup. His background is in publishing and editing. Clearly both of these new Board Members will have lots to offer in their new volunteer role.

Friendly Visiting & Telephone Reassurance

Have you ever wished a friend would drop in or give you a phone call? This can become more pronounced as a person gets older and is unable to get out and socialize the way they once did. In the next few months, N.F.C.S. will be launching two new programs for seniors in the Sharbot Lake area: Friendly Visiting and Telephone Reassurance. These services are all about a community volunteer making regular contact with a senior in the area.

Do you know of a senior who would appreciate a visit? Would you like to donate some time to make a difference in someone else's life? Who knows, you just may become the best of friends. If you would like to hear more, please call Catherine Tysick at 279-3151.

Community Open House - Ontario Early Years Center

Despite the blizzard conditions, the community open house went ahead as planned. The families enjoyed making Christmas crafts, face painting, scavenger hunt and cookie decorating. Staff and affiliates were on hand to answer questions about our services.
