Raisings funds for flushing

Last summer, Wayne Robinson was a volunteer judge at a highly successful Karaoke competition held at the beach in Sharbot Lake. At the time, he noted that the park had one glaring weakness as a facility for large scale events: that the outhouse facilities were inadequate.

Robinson wrote a letter to the township of Central Frontenac at the time, expressing this concern and volunteering to be involved in finding a solution. Six months later, staff has brought forward a report to the new Council about costs. The report says that while final approval has not yet been obtained from the head office of the KFL&A Health Unit, the local inspector is satisfied with a dual septic system holding/filter bed. The cost is estimated at $20,000. A new building with electrical, plumbing and water supply will cost around $7,500 according to public works manager Bill Nicol.

At this weeks council meeting, councillors decided to send a letter to Wayne Robinson inviting him and his wife Alison to be involved in a fundraising campaign to raise the $27,500 needed. The matter will also be put over to budget deliberations later this year.

The ongoing costs of septic pumping at the proposed site were not brought forward to council at this time.
