Sydenham High School Gets Into the Holiday Spirit

"What do you get when you cross a vampire and a snowman? Frostbite!" This eye-rolling joke from MCs Stephanie Anger, Angela Ferguson, and Jorden Stinson launched the 2003 Sydenham High School Christmas Concert.

Following a medley by the S.H.S. Concert Band, teachers and staff performed "Sydenham Idle. a search for teacher talent at S.H.S. Teachers delighted the audience by hula hooping to Chipmunks songs and polka dancing for the two curmudgeonly judges, Mr. Roger Curtis and Mr. Jim Russell. Next, the student teachers performed an interpretive dance culminating in a human pyramid that resembled a Christmas tree, complete with a golden star on top. In homage to S.H.S.s principal, Mr. Bruce Marchen, teachers and staff wove a musical tale about the misadventures of a man named Bruce. Mr. Mike Verner provided bongo accompaniment. After this, Stefan Gingrich sang a lovely Christmas solo followed by a spirited version of "The First Noel" by Justine Thompson, Jamie Vinkle, Tyler Lauzon and Andrew Phillips. The schools administration staffs skit provided the audience with their Santa fix; Santa Claus visited Sydenham High School in order to determine which teachers had been naughty and which had been nice. As the audience found out from hilarious video footage, most of the teachers fell under the former category.

Jorden Stinson sang an updated version of "White Christmas" with Angela Ferguson and Stephanie Anger providing Motown-style backup. "Sydenham Idle " returned for a second installment, featuring even stranger contestants: Garry Rasmussen doing a touching impression of a pig singing "Jingle Bells," the Line Dancing Cadets, and Drummy McDrum Drums performing a vigorous all-percussion piece.

S.H.S.s Christmas Concert was fun for both performers and audience, and a fitting conclusion topre-Christmas activities, which had included a food drive for the needy and astudent-organizeddinner for the teachers and staff.
