South Frontenac Council

Sydenham Water: A March 30th letter from John Gerretson, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing to Mayor Lake refers to the increased costs associated with the Sydenham water project. Mr Gerretson states: "The government is committed to funding one-third of eligible capital costs towards the municipalitys OSTAR application. Ministry staff is reviewing the tendered price for the Sydenham communal water project. The increased costs will be reviewed to determine eligibility under the program parameters and then we can determine the appropriate funding." No timelines for this process were in the letter. There was no discussion.

Family Fishing: The Province of Ontario, along with a number of non government organizations has declared the weekend of July 9 - 11 (Friday through Sunday) a licence-free fishing weekend, calling it Ontario Family Fishing Weekend.

Alcohol at Fire Halls: Council discussed the fire chiefs concern about local firemens associations serving alcohol at summer BBQs held at the fire halls. It is considered the responsibility of each association to assure that there is a full compliment of non-drinking firefighters on hand during these fundraising events to be available for emergencies.

Fortunately, the second meeting of the month usually has a shorter agenda, for, with audience members signalling hockey scores from car radios to the council table, discussion of most matters was brief tonight.
