Woman stabbed near Parham

The Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a bizarre stabbing that took place near Parham on Saturday night February 14 at approximately 8:15 p.m.

A 30-year-old Sharbot Lake woman was driving home northbound along Road 38, and near the Kingston/South Frontenac boundary line, she observed an older pickup truck that she felt was following her.

The victim stopped at Toppers Convenience Store in Verona to make a call home at around 7:55 p.m. and saw the truck drive past her. Feeling that she was no longer in danger, the victim continued her journey north towards Sharbot Lake.

The victim made another stop in Godfrey around 8:10 p.m. to use the phone and indicated that everything was O.K.

Approximately 800 meters south of the Parham Ambulance Service, the victim looked into her rearview mirror at oncoming headlights and saw the silhouette of a person crawling over the back seat of her sport utility vehicle.

She immediately applied the brakes and went into the snow bank approximately 700 meters south of the Parham Ambulance Service. As she attempted to get out of the car, the attacker grabbed her hair. She fell to the ground and the assailant jumped onto her and stabbed her three times in the lower abdomen.

The assailant then fled the scene. The victim feels that a vehicle that had slowed down near the scene of the attack may have picked him up. She indicated that numerous vehicles drove past her vehicle as she was trying to free it from the snow bank.

The victim was treated at Kingston General Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The assailant is believed to have been wearing a black puffy jacket, a black rolled up toque, and hiking boots. The victim was driving a brown Ford Explorer with a trip permit instead of the usual license plate.

Contacted on Tuesday, detective Mezzatesta of the Frontenac OPP said interviews were being conducted with people who were in Toppers Convenience Store on Saturday night, but that as of yet there are no leads in the case. She wanted to assure the public that this was an isolated incident.

Anyone who may have driven past the vehicle as it was stuck in the snow bank or who knows anything about the assault is asked to contact Detective Melanie Mezzatesta of the Frontenac OPP at 372-1932.
