South Frontenac Council

Council received a delegation representing over 100 petitioners living on Eel Bay, Norway, Charlie Green and McFadden Roads, asking that these roads be hard-topped as soon as possible, and that the roads be graded and repaired on a more frequent basis in the meantime. Council referred the petition to the Public Works manager for recommendations, and agreed to have an answer by budget time early in the new year.

Changes to the All Terrain Vehicle Act now prohibit ATVs from traveling on all municipal roads (including road allowances) unless a by-law has been passed authorizing these vehicles to use the road allowance. Council decided to ask staff to check out liability issues and make recommendations about roads which might be designated for ATV use. Mayor Lake said he wanted to hear from the ATV operators, too.

The current membership appointments to township Boards, Committees and Associations were extended to the end of December. The township is presently seeking interested community members to join these committees in the new year.

Council members agreed that the Township could not offer financial support to a high school student for her South Pole trip, as it would then be unfair to refuse any requests for financial assistance for school trips. However, Mayor Lake said he would personally offer a $50 donation to the student.

The first meeting for the new mayor and council moved into camera at 10:20 to discuss the amalgamation report, a council directory update, the animal control report, the by-law enforcement report, and a seven-page confidential report.
