Medieval Faire in HarrowsmithOn Saturday June 21 the Chippewa Girl Guide units from Harrowsmith, Verona, and Sydenham hosted a Medieval Faire at Centennial Park in Harrowsmith. The faire, which was put on by the Canton of Greyfells from Kingston, was the Guides major event and membership drive for the year. Although rain deterred some people from attending, those who did go were able to get a taste of what life was like from 600-1600 A.D. There were tables set up where people could experiment with making marzipan fruit, calligraphy, flower hair wreaths, paper shield design, and there was also a table where a fully costumed expert showed how chain mail was constructed. Those interested could also practice their archery skills, watch a demonstration of sword fighting or try grinding oats into flour.

The Kingston medieval group, which was formed approximately 15 years ago, puts on school demonstrations almost every year, but this was the first time they have worked with the Girl Guides.
