Luminarias expanding in its 4th year

Four years ago, Cathy Saban of the Sharbot Lake Country Inn, decided to bring the Luminaria tradition to the village. On that Christmas Eve in the year 2000, calm weather prevailed and people were delighted by the ambience created by lit candles in paper bags set out along the streets of Sharbot Lake. Since then others have caught Luminaria fever, and the area around Wing Crescent has been lit up for the last couple of Christmas Eves. This year the residents of the Village Woods division will be doing it as well.

Far from feeling that others have been stealing her thunder, Saban is delighted others have expanded on her idea. That was my intention in the first place, to do one area and have others take it to the rest of the village. Cathy and Dave Saban, along with staff and friends at the Country Inn, will put out about 1500 candles this year, along Highway 38 from the causeway at the South end of the Village, past the Seniors home and along Elizabeth and Robert Streets. There will be another 1500 candles in the Village Woods subdivision. The candles will be lit at around 6 pm on Christmas Eve. Villagers are invited to view the Luminarias and are welcome to attend an open House, with snacks and hot beverages, at the Sharbot Lake Country Inn from around 6:45 onwards.
