Jean Goodberry 1922-2002 Long-time Frontenac News Parham correspondent Jean Goodberry died a few weeks ago. Jean had been battling health problems in recent years, and became very ill last fall.

Jean Goodberry was born Jean Howes, in Wagarville. She was the eldest of four children. Her younger brother Glenn lives in Parham, and there were twin younger sisters, who both died young.

According to her brother, Jean began working at a young age, at local farms and at the Bata Shoe Corporation. She moved to Parham in 1944 or 45, and later married Len Goodberry and raised a family.

The couple had five children, four daughters and a son. One of the daughters, Wilma, died suddenly at age 16, and the rest of the children still live nearby.

Her community reports for the Frontenac News were an extension of the interest Jean took in the community as a whole. She was a board member of North Frontenac Community Services, and was named a life member of the organization. She was very active in the Parham United Church and the Parham Womens Institute. She always took a great interest in children and in the public school in Parham, where she herself attended classes 70 years ago. She will be sorely missed by the community of Parham and her friends at The Frontenac News
