Ice Dancing at Maberly Snowfestby Jule Koch

At the Maberly Snowfest on March 1, an appreciative audience at a newly-created outdoor rink enjoyed a rare treat: live ice dancing by Eastern Ontario novice Figure Skating Dance Champions Thomas Fulton and his partner Jessica Dubois. Seventeen-year-old Thomas is from Maberly, and 15-year-old Jessica is from Smiths Falls. They have been skating since childhood: Thomas since he was 9, and Jessica since she was 6.

I usually stay late on Mondays to catch up with what Ive missed, says Jessica, adding that, our teachers are very supportive of our skating. Thomas is in Grade 12 and says, It will be tough to fit university and skating together. But I love skating, and would like to earn a living with it.

The Snowfest was a fundraiser to send the pair to the Nationals, and judging by the turnout, the whole community is rooting for them.
