Frontenac 150th Anniversary-Page 13

Celebrations all year long, culminating in August Showcase - Frontenac County's 150th

By 1850 there were enough people living in what would eventually become Frontenac and Lennox and Addington Counties to form a municipal government. The United Counties lasted only 14 years, however, a document of separation was signed in September 1864 expressing "friendship, esteem, regret and best wishes, and a desire to work together in any future joint interests". In early January of 1865, two years before Canada came into being as a country, Frontenac County held its inaugural meeting. A lot has happened since then. The County even disappeared for a few years not too long ago, but it came back in spades and is in a mood to celebrate. Among the 150th Anniversary events is a series of profiles in the Frontenac News that is running for the entire year. The "50 stories - 150 years" project is captured at frontenacnews.ca/ frontenac-150th-anniversary – complete with videos of some of Frontenac County's older community members talking about life in the County before the advent of electricity, telephones and internet. On June 13, "Doors Open Frontenac County", an opportunity for the public to visit a

number of historic buildings within Frontenac County, will take place between 10 am and 5 pm. Included in the event will be buildings from the bottom to the top of the vast county. Several groups will be holding open houses and putting on special events many locations, including: Harrowsmith Women's Institute at St. Paul's United Church, Harrowsmith; Portland & District Heritage Society at South Frontenac Council Chambers; Central Frontenac Railway Heritage Society at the Caboose in Sharbot Lake; Cloyne & District Historical Society at the Pioneer Museum in Cloyne, the Wolfe Island Historical Society at Old House Museum in Marysville; the Bedford Heritage Society at the Glendower Community Hall; the Clarendon & Miller Community Archives at the Plevna KFPL branch; the Bradshaw School House near Tichborne; the Sydenham Grace Centre; the Verona Lions Club at the Verona Lions Hall; the Kennebec & District Historical Society at the Kennebec Community Hall; the K&P Trail at the Trailhead - Harrowsmith Hwy. 38 Junction The 150th anniversary celebrations will hit their high note on the weekend of August 28-30th at Centennial Park in
