CAMPBELL, GLENN HAMILTON

Peacefully at the Kingston General Hospital on Thursday August 26, 2010 in his 87th year. Beloved husband of Jean Judge of 66 years. Loving father of Heather Fox (Doug), Ron Campbell (Cathie) Proud Poppy of Darrin Fox (Charlene) and Sasha Campbell. Predeceased by grandson Cheston (2007). Great grand poppy of Emma, Savannah and Raven. Glenn will be greatly missed by his sisters Muriel Steele, Perth, Eileen Baldwin, Mississauga, Doreen Hopkins, (Gib), Kingston, Janet Wright, Ottawa, Joan Scales, Kingston and brother Harry (Wyn), Midland. Predeceased by parents, Elgin and Muriel Campbell, sister Evelyn Maynard, Joyce Rinneard and brother Sonny Campbell. Resting at Goodfellow’s Funeral Home, Parham. MACDONALD, William Ian
 
Peacefully, in hospital, Smiths Falls, on Sunday, August 22nd, 2010, in his 79th year.

William Ian Macdonald, beloved son of the late William Ian and Beatrice Mae Macdonald (nee` Coulter).  Born in Toronto on January 9th, 1932, Bill was the dear husband by second marriage of the late Lorna Bergman (2001), and formerly husband to Eloise Coker, of Ottawa.

Dad will be sadly missed by his children; Steven (Suzanne), Andrew (Debbie), and Susan (Richard) Gray, all of Ottawa.

Treasured grandfather to Pamela (Callum) O'Connor, Angela, Steven (Caroline), Michael and Sarah, and wonderful great-grandfather to Clark, Gemma, Nola, and Vincent.
Mr. Macdonald was predeceased by his son; John Ford Macdonald, in 1989, and his daughter, Kimberly Anne in 1963. Also predeceased by his sister Elizabeth Anne Foster, in 1995.

In keeping with Mr. Macdonald's wishes, there will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Cremation has taken place, a Memorial Service will be held at a later date and a private interment will occur in Scotland.

For those wishing, contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Smiths Falls Hospital Foundation, would be appreciated.

PURDON, Margaret Maxine

Peacefully at home on Thursday August 19, 2010 at the age of 66 after a long battle with cancer. Margaret Maxine Kellar Purdon, daughter of the late Elwood and Frances Kellar, dearly loved wife of John Purdon. Loving mother of Tammy Purdon-Harris (Grant) and Shawn (Kim). Grandmother of Carolyn, Emily, Makenzie and Madison. Survived by sisters and brothers Winnifred Flieler (the late Ferd), Cecil (Jean), Delbert (Phyllis), Maxwell (Audrey) and Shirley Burke (Percy), also sisters-in-law Bernice and Diane Purdon (Bill). Predeceased by brother James (Lorraine) and brother-in-law Brian Purdon.

Will be missed by many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Maxine's life will be held at Goodfellow's Funeral Home, Parham on Saturday August 28, 2010. Family and friends will be welcome from 11 am until 1:45 pm. Funeral service will be at 2 pm. ViIRAG, Richard Wendel (the Beard)

It is with great sadness that we advise of the passing of Richard (age 61) on Sunday August 15, 2010. After coping with MS for over 25 years, he was also diagnosed with ALS in July. He passed away peacefully and quietly  at Loyalist Retirement Home in Odessa under the tender and loving care of Debby McCurdy and Wayne Babcock. He leaves his children Darrel & Dayna Virag, his sister Marlene (Bright) Allison and brothers John and Tony. Richard spent many happy years at his trailer in Brown’s Park, Mazinaw Lake. Richard was cremated and a memorial service was held August 21, 2010 in Coburg.

Richard passed away on the anniversary of his Oma’s death and we believe that “Oma came and took him home.”

He is sorely missed by all who knew him.

Passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a brief illness at the Lennox & Addington General Hospital on Friday, August 6, 2010 at the age of 70. Loving husband of 45 years to Josephine (nee Ruttan) of Flinton. Cherished father of Leslie (Tammy) of Flinton, Mary Jane Spicer (Rick) of Flinton, James (Joanne) of Flinton, Floyd (Tabitha) of Marmora and Maggie-Ellen (Dave) Payne of Rodney. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Nathan, Candice, Marissa, Megan, Damian and Logan. Dear brother of Sharon (Archie) Delyea, Garry (Elaine) McLuckie, Marilyn (Doug) Berry, Cathy (Art) Tryon, Darlene McLuckie, Gloria McLuckie, Debbie McLuckie, Dawn McLuckie and Roberta McLuckie. UMPHERSON, Lenora M.

Retired school teacher for close to 40 years in schools all through Lanark County, Board Member and volunteer of the Lanark Village Museum and member of St. Andrew's choir. In hospital, in Ottawa, on Friday, July 30th, 2010 at the age of 72.  Lenora was predeceased by her father Herbert in 1992 and in June 2010 by her mother Alice (Hughes) Chatson of Denbigh. Beloved wife of the late Pat 'M.J.' Umpherson who predeceased Lenora in June of 2003.  Dearly loved mother of Michael and his wife Jayne Umpherson and cherished and special grandmother of Grace, Matthew and William Umpherson.  Dear sister of Herb (Sherrill) of Trenton, Harold (June) of Cloyne and Francis (Toni) of Denbigh. WATTS, Joyce W. (Oct. 21, 1941 ~ July 17, 2010)

Of Mazinaw Lake passed away after a brief illness at the Kingston General Hospital on Saturday, July 17, 2010 in her 69th year. Loving wife of 41 years to Frederick Watts. She will be sadly missed by her brother Brian (Diane) Haughie of Hamilton. Dear sister-inlaw of Ed (Grace) Watts of Kanata, Jo-Anne Watts of Cloyne and Linda (Rick) Blake of Amherstview. EASTON, Rodney Lloyd

It is with heartbreaking sadness we announce Rod’s passing peacefully at home with his wife of 20 years at his side after a valiant 2 year battle with brain cancer, a battle which could not be won no matter how hard we fought. On July 17th 2010, two years to the day of his diagnosis, Rod passed peacefully into the stars. Rod will forever be remembered and treasured by his eternally devoted wife, Donna Mae (Knapp), sons Rodney and Jeff (Shawna) Easton of Kingston, step-sons Bobby and Rick Nevin (Larissa), step-daughter Jessie Nevin (Craig), granddaughter Lacey Nevin. He is survived also by his daughter Cassie and her son, Ben, in New Brunswick, his doting in-laws Richard and Betty Knapp, Kingston, Sherryl Baines (Tony Summerfelt), Marijane Letourneau (Alan) and their son Ryan, all of Kingston and Larry Knapp (Brenda) and their children Jaclyn and Alex of Nova Scotia, his mother Jane Johannsan of California. Forever in the hearts of his Aunt Cathy, cousins Denise Easton-Yendt (Derek), Terri Reid (Doug) and Jennie Domanico (Aurel) and their families, all of St. Catharines, Ontario. Reunited with his brother, Ron and Uncle Dennis, who we know are "raising hell in heaven" under the watchful eye of his beloved Nanny Easton. Rod held a special spot in his heart for our dear friends Rob Smith, Lisa Smith and their children Jenna, Dawson and Warren.

Rod was eagerly awaiting the arrival of Baby Boy Easton due one day before his 61st birthday in August and we know that Grandpa Easton will be the best Guardian Angel ever to have walked this earth.

Funeral Arrangements in the care of Goodfellow’s Funeral Home in Parham. A celebration of Rod’s life will take place at our home on Saturday July 31st and all are welcome to come and share their memories as we remember him "the Easton way".

In lieu of flowers, it is Rod’s request that donations be given to the RCR Education Fund for children of Fallen Soldiers, a charity close to his heart.

MCBRIDE, Lesley Elizabeth (1954 - 2010)

Passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, July 14, 2010.  Beloved daughter of June Richards and the late Kenneth McBride. Dear sister of Daniel McBride (Francoise), Lisa Russell (Barry) and Julie Castle (Ian). Loving aunt of Grayden and Devin Castle. Caring companion of her feline friend 'Chooy'. Lesley will be fondly remembered by her family and friends in the Kingston area and by her extended family and friends in Alberta and British Columbia. She was a painter, a poet, a writer and was at one with yoga and a lover of nature. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Lesley will be held at a later date. William (Bill) Nash, Arden, ON

Peacefully passed away at Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital on July 6, 2010 at the age of 86. Loving husband of Kathleen (Kay) and father of David (Sharon), Sharon (Rick), and Ken. He will always be cherished in the hearts of his grandchildren Owen and Kevin (Shaina), great granddaughter Taylor, and special friend Rev. John Taylor. Veteran of WW II and long-time member of the Canadian Legion, with 43 years service at Schlumberger and Sangamo Electric. At request of the deceased, cremation has taken place and no service will be held.

Peacefully at his home in Odessa with family by his side on Thursday May 27, 2010 in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of Margaret. ALEXANDER, Samuel  (April 5, 1924- June 4, 2010)

Samuel James Franklin Alexander passed away peacefully at age 86 at Pine Meadow Nursing Home, Northbrook. Sam was born and raised in Arden, Ontario along with his brother Ken and sister Dorothy. He graduated from Queen’s University in Engineering in 1945. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces for a short time post WWII. He then began a career with Shell Oil for many years where he met his future wife Joan Yule, and were married in 1951. They moved to Peterborough where he started his own business, Alexander Fuels. He remained in the oil and fuel business throughout his life along with other business ventures as well. Sam and Joan raised four children, Arden, Robert, Peg and Tom.

His beloved Joan passed away on September 23rd 1995 in Peterborough. A short time later he met his loving companion Delia Puttkamer in Vancouver, BC. Sam and Delia spent their summers on Big Gull Lake and winters in Vancouver until he returned to Peterborough in 2008. Sadly Sam was stricken with Alzheimer’s disease, however this gave his four children the opportunity to care for him and be by his side in his remaining years. He was always loved by his son’s and daughter’s in law Duncan Scott, Laurie Alexander, Debbie Alexander, Dave Goodes, and Paul Meade. He will be missed by his special grandchildren; Madeline, Meghan, Jeffrey, Alexandria, Katie, Samantha, Stephanie, James, Samuel, Sarah and Joel. All his extended family, wonderful friends, and Big Gull Lake Family will miss his love of life and laughter.

Many thanks to Princess Gardens and St Joseph at Fleming in Peterborough and a special appreciation to the staff at Pine Meadow Nursing Home for their compassion and care during his final months.

OHLKE, Iva “Dawn” Ohlke (nee Cunningham) 

After a valiant struggle with chronic lung disease, and with her children at her side, Dawn passed away Sunday, May 23, 2010 eight days before her 84th birthday.  The youngest of a large family growing up in the Ottawa Valley near Arnprior, Dawn was predeceased by her parents Charles and Jean Cunningham and her siblings Elizabeth, Jean, Ella, Archibald, Cochrane, Samuel and Lloyd.  Also predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Frank Russell “Bud” Ohlke.   Loving mother to Paul (Dawn) Ohlke, Mississauga and Suzanne McDermid, Gananoque.  Loving grandmother to Paige, Patrick, Andrew, Deidre, Ryan, Lucas and Emma.  Dawn will be missed by her sister in law and brother in law, Paula (Ohlke) and Chuck Collyer and by her many nieces, nephews and cousins across Canada and the United States. 

Dawn graduated second in her class from the KGH School of Nursing, Class of ’49.  Declining KGH’s kind offer of graduate school in Toronto, Dawn chose instead to remain in Kingston, accept a position as Assistant Charge Nurse of Paediatrics, marry our father and start a family.  Dawn and Bud met while she was a nursing student  and he was at Queen’s - Bud had sustained an injury playing varsity football and was one of her patients.  

Throughout her nursing career Dawn held a variety of supervisory roles at Kingston General Hospital where she nursed with distinction until her retirement.  In the later years of her career Dawn assisted the late Dr. John Carmichael with his Gynaecology-Oncology clinical trials / research and was part of a team that had numerous papers published in this field.  She was highly regarded by all she worked with. In the care of Trousdale Funeral Home, 4374 Mill Street, Sydenham Ontario, 613-376-3022

Peacefully on April 5 at home with family, at age 79. Beloved wife of Alexander, ever-loving mother of William, Robert (Kathy), Mary (Ian), Susan, and John (Rebecca). Grandchildren were always a source of joy and constant love: Bonnie; Myles, Hilary, and Erica; Haley and Alexander; and Raven and Ariell. A Queen’s grad in Nursing Science, Marjorie worked as a staff nurse in Ottawa and Calgary. Marj’s volunteer interests touched many. Neighbours in the isolated mining community of Schefferville, QC were given instruction in the living room on child-bearing. Older persons in Barefoot Bay, FL who had called for emergency help were attended. Children with learning problems were helped with her one-on-one instruction. Until recently she was a model of physical health with a youthful demeanor and agility that belied her years. Marj was passionate about everything she did, but especially about choral singing, swimming, and dancing. Marjorie had an unshakeable faith. She loved people. Her simple unassuming graciousness was a welcome presence. A memorial service is planned at Sharbot Lake, ON this July (enquiries: P.O. Box 381, Sharbot Lake, ON, K0H 2P0). Donations to the Salvation Army or charity of choice will be appreciated. And go for a skinny dip under a starry summer sky and ponder the wonders of creation. GRAY, James Littleton

It is with deep sadness that the family of James Gray announce his passing on March 18, 2010 in Kingston, Ontario.

James was born in Cardiff, Wales in 1921 and graduated from the University of London with a Bachelor of Science (Engineering). He was a transport pilot with WWII and worked in both Canada and the United States in a variety of design engineering capacities. James is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lucy Cauchi whose love has never waivered. Their union produced three daughters. Alison Robinson, son-in-law Wayne Robinson and their children Matthew, David and Spencer of Sharbot Lake. Linden Gray, son-in-law Ron Doleman and their children Tristan, Kalie, Neil, Robin and Tamera of Halifax. Jeanette Gray, son-in-law Mike Inglis and their children Aaron, Bridget, Jamie, Alan, Kim, Cole and Britany all of London, ON.

Our thanks are extended to Dr. Peter Bell and his caring staff; the geriatric, palliative and spiritual teams of St. Mary’s on the Lake; as well as Kim and Julia . We also extend special thanks to the management and community at the Kingsdale Chateau whose friendship mattered in the end. Suddenly on Sunday March 14th, 2010, Irene (Flieler) Kring at the age of 85 years.  Irene  was predeceased by her sister Gladys MacAllister and brother Ed Flieler, in 1988 by her loved husband Vernard and on January 19th, 2010 by her dear daughter Burree Kring.  She was the cherished mother of Franklin (Dianne) Kring,  Sheila (Ron) Mugford, Cindy Whan, Wanda (Alan) Silver and John (Mindy) Kring. O’Connor, Barry

Barry O’Connor, who served as principal of Sharbot Lake High School in the 1980s and eventually climbed the administrative ladder to become Director of the Limestone District School Board, has died of cancer at the age of 60.

O’Connor was only 37 when he got his first posting as a high school principal in Sharbot Lake.

Former staff from the school recalled his impact on the school when they learned of O’Connor’s death.

“He was certainly one of the finest human beings I’ve ever known. We were working at 110% of our capacity when he was at Sharbot Lake,” said Gary Giller, who taught at SLHS throughout Barry O’Connor’s tenure at the school. “He just had a way with people, he had a way of getting the most out of people. Great things were always happening while he was principal.”

Giller said that O’Connor served as Director of the Limestone Board during some turbulent times under the Mike Harris government but “he remained positive through all that.”

After his retirement from the school board in 2004, O’Connor remained active as a basketball coach.

Barry O’Connor is survived by his wife Marilyn, son Ryan and daughter Steacy O'Connor-Wordley.

of Cloyne passed away peacefully at the Lennox & Addington County General Hospital on Friday, January 15th, 2010. Pre-deceased by her husband Harold Potts in 1994. Dear friend & companion of Dave Roberts.
