Stuff the Cruiser for south Frontenac Foodbank!

The Christmas and holiday season is tough on many families! Frequently, there is not enough money to put food on the table. This year, you can help make a difference!

On Saturday, December 4, OPP Auxiliary Constable Jeremy Saunders, Auxiliary Sergeant Andy Mouck and Auxiliary Staff Sergeant Bill Anderson, in conjunction with Constable Jim Morris, will be parking an OPP cruiser at each of the Foodlands in Verona and in Sydenham.

Your task? To help fill the cruisers with non-perishable food items. The food collected will support the Loughborough Christmas and Emergency Relief Fund as well as the Southern Frontenac Community Services Food Bank.

Special thanks go to the OPP Auxiliary Police, Mrs. Aylsworth’s grade 2 class, Mrs Pond’s grade 1 class at Perth Road Public School and to the Prince Charles Public School in Verona for the design and creation of the event posters.

Southern Frontenac Community Services (SFCSC) is a charitable non-profit organization that has been providing services and programs for seniors and social support for low income families residing in the districts of Loughborough, Portland, Storrington and rural Kingston north of the 401 for 21 years. The SFCSC Food Bank, coordinated solely by volunteers, receives no government funding and is totally supported by donations of food and money from local churches, schools, organizations and the general public through events such as Stuff the Cruiser!

Like Partners in Mission in Kingston, SFCSC follows the guidelines of the Ontario Association of Food Banks. This means we do ask for client financial means assessment to ensure that those truly in need are the ones that can access the food bank. All food bank clients (singles, couples and families) receive a three to five day supply of non-perishable items, plus bread, milk, eggs, fresh fruits and vegetables once a month (after an initial emergency food offering). We also add tips on healthy eating as well as simple recipes.

Between the two agencies, an average of more than 50 individuals and families are recipients of food each and every month. Latest statistics show that 72% of people that turn to food banks do not get the recommended daily quantity of fruits and vegetables and that is the reason SFCSC adds fresh fruits and vegetables to food hampers.

That’s Saturday, December 4 – at Foodland in Sydenham, and at Foodland – Highway 38, Verona between 10AM and 2PM. For more information, contact Jennifer Linton at 613-376-6883, SFCSC at 613-376-6477 or Jeremy Saunders at 613-353-7692.
