Sixth annual timber wolf cross country running meetBy Brian Robertson
Nathan Domen, of Land O’ Lakes Public School, held on to the Top Male Runner Trophy for the second year in a row as the sixth annual Timber Wolf Cross Country Meet took place on a very rainy Thursday, September 30. Bailey Tripp, also of Land O’ Lakes Public School, won top female, dislodging last year’s champ, Hilary Howes of Sharbot Lake Intermediate School.
Participating schools included Sharbot Lake Public School (coached by Linda Chappel and Aaron West), Sharbot Lake Intermediate School (coached by Kirby Gilbertson), Clarendon Central Public School (coached by Matt Drechsler and Katie McDonald), Hinchinbrooke Public School (coached by Karl Kent), and Land O’ Lakes Public School (coached by Brian Robertson).
Land O’ Lakes Public School did a fine job of hosting the event, with students Claire Willis, Cassidy Savic, Mikaela Cooper and Amélie Silvestre leading the pre-run pep rally and warm-ups where even some teachers participated!
Timber Wolf Run coordinator, Brian Robertson, thanked the Parent Council of LOLPS for not only constructing the track through community goodwill some six years ago, but also maintaining it so students and community alike can pursue their active living goals.
School mom, Chantal Villeneuve, a professional photographer with Dean Dennis Photography, roughed it out in the rain with her daughter Amélie, taking fabulous action shots of all the runners and donating the final products to the participating schools.
The goal of the Timber Wolf Running Meet is to get our children outside and active in our beautiful Central Frontenac countryside. Two waves of runners, competitive and non-competitive, give each and every student that opportunity. By all accounts, our 2010 edition of the run met those goals with flying colours.
See you out on the trails, everyone!
