All Candidates Meetings Schedule

Municipal Election

By Jeff Green

As we intimated in our coverage last week, providing opportunities for municipal candidates in the various townships in our readership area to communicate directly with the public carries a set of logistical problems with it.

Last week, in my haste to organize all-candidates’ meetings for each district, I forgot all about Thanksgiving weekend.

So the first thing that had to be changed were the dates of the all-candidates’ meetings for Bedford District in South Frontenac, which had been scheduled on the Friday of Thanksgiving weekend - which also happens to be the date of the Commencement ceremonies at Sharbot Lake High School. That meeting has been re-scheduled to Wednesday, October 13 at the Bedford Hall.

A meeting had also been scheduled at the Flinton Hall for Ward 2 in Addington Highlands on Thanksgiving Monday. That meeting has been re-scheduled to the next day, Tuesday, October 12.

Finally a meeting that had been scheduled at the Sunbury Hall for Storrington District has been cancelled altogether because the Dog Lake Association has stepped forward to organize a meeting for Storrington, which is outside of the Frontenac News’ distribution area even though it is part of South Frontenac.

There were a couple of other errors in last week’s coverage. Tony Fritsch is a candidate in Ward 1 of Addington Highlands, not Ward 2 as was indicated in a front page article, and telephone/internet voting in Addington Highlands begins on October 15, not the 18th as was indicated in an article on page 2. (The information was correct in the township’s ad, which was on page 5 of last week’s paper)

A full schedule of meetings, which we hope is the final list, is reprinted to the right. The first meeting takes place tonight in Sharbot Lake.

We hope to begin our candidate profiles with North Frontenac Township candidates in next week’s edition of the News (Sept. 30), followed by Central Frontenac the week after (October 7), and all other districts on October 14.
