All Candidates Meetings Schedule List of Candidates | And, they're offBy Jeff GreenA flurry of last-minute nominations throughout the region has ensured lively contests for just about every municipal position in Frontenac County, Addington Highlands, and western Lanark County. While Henry Hogg has been acclaimed as Reeve in Addington Highlands, and Keith Kerr and Susan Freeman will return as Reeve and Deputy Reeve in Tay Valley, there will be battles for all of the other positions. Ann Goodfellow and Wendy Procter have each been acclaimed as trustees of the Limestone District School Board and Algonquin Catholic Separate School Boards respectively. In North Frontenac, Bud Clayton is running for mayor against Jim Beam. Clayton served as a North Frontenac councilor between 2003 and 2006, and ran for mayor the last time around, losing out to Ron Maguire, who is not running in this election. In Central Frontenac, Douglas Lee has joined the race for mayor. He is running against Logan Murray, who announced his candidacy at the beginning of the year, and incumbent mayor Janet Gutowski, who has also been campaigning since the summer. There are additional candidates for Council as well. In North Frontenac, incumbent Lonnie Watkins and Gerry Martin have jumped into the race for ward 2 (Clarendon and Miller), making it a five-way race for two positions, and in ward 3 (Palmerston-Canonto) John Inglis and Robin Riddell have joined the race, making it a four-way race. In ward 1 (Barrie) incumbent Wayne Good decided to run again, making it a four-way race. There are new candidates for Council in Central Frontenac as well. In Kennebec ward, Tom Waller has joined the race, making it a four-way race for two positions, and in Olden, incumbent Norm Guntensperger is the third candidate to come forward. Carol Coupland is running in Oso ward, making it a four-way race. In South Frontenac, the races were basically set early on in the summer, but late last week there was a candidate who pulled out of the race. Long-serving Bedford councilor David Hahn withdrew because of illness. Over in Addington Highlands, the race in ward 2 now has a 5th candidate, Tony Fritsch. Finally, in Lanark Highlands, two candidates have finally stepped up for the single seat in ward 6, Brian Stewart and JoAnne Wheeler.
