Rockin' at the rink

By Julie Druker

The third annual Frontenac Community Arena Dance and Silent Auction will be held at the Frontenac Community Arena on June 5 from 9pm-1am, and arena manager and event organizer Jim Stinson is hoping that members of community will come out and support this important fundraising event. Money raised will go towards the $300,000 debt still owing for the Arena Expansion Project, which funded new dressing rooms and washrooms and transformed the arena into an improved facility to be proud of.

The event promises to be even more enjoyable than last year’s dance, with a silent auction, the 5 Hole Split Skills Competition, 50/50 draw, cash bar, midnight buffet, and – new this year – Larry-the-Cable-Guy and Dolly Parton look-alike contests. Guests can groove to the sounds of local band “Still Standin'” whose repertoire of country and rock covers always manages to get the rink a-rockin'.

According to Jim Stinson these fundraisers are very important in beating down the outstanding arena debt. He explained, “The difficulty can sometimes be that once a project has been finished and is in place and being used, people often forget that it still has yet to be paid for. We are hoping that people in the community still recognize this fact and come out to support us.”

Last year 225 guests attended the event and Stinson is hoping to see that number increase to 250 this year.

Advance $10 tickets can be purchased at McGowan‘s store in Godfrey, the Sharbot Lake Petro-Can, Verona Hardware, and Something Cool Frozen Foods in Sydenham. Tickets at the door are $15.
