Auction Raises $2,100 for Haiti relief

Jerry Ackerman of Parham won a free trip to the Dominican Republic from Country Syle just days after an earthquake devastated Haiti. He knew right away that he wanted to turn his winnings into cash for Haitian relief.

Country Style co-operated enthusiastically, and a phone and email auction, sponsored by the Frontenac News was the result. At noon on Monday the auction ended with the winning bid being $2,100 by Tom Herd, who lives in Newmarket but has a cottage on Kennebec Lake. Herd plans to go on the trip for two to the Sirenis Resort in Punta Cana, with his wife Angela, sometime in March.

$2,100 will be distributed to charities that are chosen by John Green and Bill Powell of Rescue International.
