Denbigh Crafters Support Project LinusBy Angela Bright
It is a labour of love that the Denbigh craft group has been working on for the past few months. Project Linus is a network of groups and individuals who make blankets and quilts for children ages birth to 18 years who are undergoing cancer treatments. Last week when the craft group met, something special was going to happen. It was the day Faye Lesage and two helpers from Tweed came to take away all their hard work. To say the group outdid themselves for their first pick up is really an understatement. A total of 30 cute, cuddly, soft, beautiful and colourful blankets will help bring comfort to a child and their family going through a traumatic time in their lives. Mrs. Lesage has been involved with Project Linus since February 2006 and the network of quilters continues to grow as does the need for quilts. Approximately 400 blankets have been given, with the majority to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa and a smaller number to Kingston. The need at CHEO is the greatest and unfortunately there are never enough to satisfy that need. And for some parents who have lost a child shortly after birth, often the blanket they were given is all they will take home with them when they leave the hospital. Inspiration is not hard to find when you look at the scrapbook Mrs. Lesage has complied. It includes a picture of Anthony, a great nephew, who continues to struggle with cancer, and is the reason she herself became involved with Project Linus. Of the quilts the Denbigh crafters made, no two are alike, though every single one shares the fact they were made with love. |
