Land O'Lakes Quilters a Giving Group

Front row l to r: Esther Irving form the Land O'Lakes Quilters Guild and Susan Andrew-Allan and Penny Hinchey of Land O'Lakes Community Services.

This year, 22 beautiful handmade quilts will form a very special part of some lucky people’s Christmas celebrations. On Nov 27, Land o’ Lakes Community Services was presented with a spectacular array of quilts, all of which were made and donated by the Land o’ Lakes Quilters Guild.

This is the second year that the guild has donated quilts to community services, Last year they donated 6 quilts, and this year 22.  Penny Hinchey and Susan Andrew-Allen from LOLCS were on hand to receive the quilts. LOLCS distributes them as part of their Christmas baskets to needy families and individuals who have been referred by workers in the county. Last year LOLCS supplied 60 families with baskets.

The guild was started in 1991 by Lillian Lemke and was then known as the Northbrook Log Cabin Piece Makers. Lillian is still a member, as are several other charter members. The group has 22 members and meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month at the community hall in Cloyne. The guild has a good selection of experienced quilters, as well as some less experienced members, and anyone is welcome to join. It costs just a dollar to spend the morning having a few laughs and also sharing the knowledge of quilting.
