The Frontenac Flyers won their first game since the 2004/2005 season Thursday night against the Picton Pirates.  The game saw up and down action but the Flyers battled hard to secure the 6-4 win.

The Flyers fell behind in the first period when two powerplay goals were scored against them but they managed to dig themselves out of that hole and into the game.  Trailing after the first, the Flyers battled back in the second with a quick goal by Jason Dasilva with Mark Davidson assisting on the play.  Mike McKinnon would tie it up at 11:57 with assists from Jason Dasilva and Brett Doig.  Mark Davidson would get the go ahead goal at 8:33 on the powerplay with assists going to Jason Dasilva and Jordan Babcock.  The Pirates would tie it up at three with just over five minutes to go in the period on another powerplay goal.  Shots on goal were tied 14 a piece for the period.

The third started with the Pirates only even strength goal of the game.  Jason Dasilva would tie it up just over a minute later for the Flyers.  Mykel Steeves assisted on the play.  The tie was shortly ended as the Flyers responded with the go ahead goal from Keith Scott with 52 seconds left to play.  Max DeBernardi and Jason Dasilva assisted on the play.  With Just 19 seconds left to go, Jason Dasilva would score the hat trick to secure the victory.  Max DeBernardi assisted on the play.  The final tally was 6-4 with Picton out shooting the Flyers 51-37 in the game.

There are numerous positives to draw on from the Flyers first win of the season.  The energy level is high, Jason Dasilva (3 goals, 3 assists), Mark Davidson (1 goal, 1 assist) and Max DeBernardi (2 assists) were all in high gear and goaltender, Jason Tuck, who played the whole game might have let in two early goals but he showed some poise by not giving up and played well the rest of the night to give the Flyers the chance to comeback.  Confidence is a big part of the game for goaltenders and Tuck plays to win every game.

The Flyers came up short at home on Sunday, 8-3, at the hands of the defending Empire B Junior Hockey League Champions, the Napanee Raiders.

The game started off with some early offence by the Raiders in the first period when they scored three unanswered goals.

The Flyers came out in the second period and played a more disciplined, physical game.  Jason Dasilva would score the Flyers first goal at 12:40 of the second.  Jordan Babcock and Keith Scott assisted on the play.  The Flyers would pull within one when defenseman Brooks Taylor got the puck deep in the Raiders end and set up a beautiful passing play to Brett Doig who made a quick pass to Jake Beatty who finished the play.  However, the Raiders would score two more late in the period to make the tally 5-2.

The third saw the Flyers with too many penalties, which seemed to kill the momentum they had built up in the second and although the Raiders would score three more goals in the third only one was on the powerplay. Jason Dasilva would score the Flyers lone goal of the third to make it 5 goals and 3 assists in two games.  Flyers goaltender, Jason Tuck, stopped 47 shots in the 8-3 loss to the Raiders.

The Flyers next game goes Saturday, November 25^th, 2006 when the Flyers travel to Colborne to face the Cobras and on Sunday the Flyers will host the Picton Pirates in a rematch of Thursdays win.  COME JOIN THE EXCITEMENT!

Notebook: Mark Davidson made his long awaited return to the Flyers lineup in Thursday’s game with a goal and an assist……Jason Dasilva had a 6 point night in the Flyers first win, 3 goals 3 assists, he now leads the league in scoring…..Jake Beatty got his first goal of the season against Napanee and Brooks Taylor also got his first point……….Keith Scott is the only player who was on the team the last time they won and Scott got the game-winning goal!
