The Northern School of Fine Arts is celebrating its ninth anniversary of Friday afternoon classes in painting, printmaking, sculpture and pottery.

On Friday, February 3, during a School Board Professional Development Day, the Art School will make a full day excursion to the National Gallery in Ottawa, where the children will participate in a special studio workshop.  Some students will participate in a two-hour hands on workshop on Inuit art, while others will do a cartooning workshop.

Regular classes, which run from 3:15 until 5:15 on Friday afternoons, will commence on February 10. Class sizes for the 9 weeks of classes, will be held be held to around 10 so space is limited. The classes are open to students aged 6 and up.

This year, students will once again do pottery and printmaking for three weeks with the school’s founders, Joanne Pickett and Martina Field, respectively.

Diedre Hierlihy, an artist and art teacher from Brooke Valley who teaches at the Ottawa School of Art will be conducting a three-week painting course this year.

The fee for the 9 classes plus the National Gallery trip is $120. Family rates are available.

As well, there are some spaces available for the National Gallery Trip alone, at a cost of $10 per child. Parents are welcome to come along, at a reduced fee of $5.  Please call Joanne Pickett at 335-2763 or Martina Field at 279-3268 for information and to pre-register.
