Treasure Trunk in new hands

by Jeff Green

The Treasure Trunk has been open for the past four years in Sharbot Lake , providing inexpensive used clothing and other items to the public, and providing a place for people to pass on quality items they no longer have a use for.

Until this week, the Treasure Trunk has been a project of the Hwy. 7 Community Development Corporation, but the corporation has recently decided to close up shop after many years, and the Treasure Trunk will be operated, as of Labour Day, by Community Living –North Frontenac.

“It will be run in much the same way it has always been run, as a volunteer-driven retail operation that is available to the entire community,” said Community Living CEO Don Nielsen in announcing that the agency will take over operating the store. “For Community Living, it is an opportunity to maintain a much needed public service, and to demonstrate our commitment to the entire community.”

Janet Barr of Community Living – North Frontenac, will be managing the Treasure Trunk, and the store will continue to be staffed by a core of volunteers. Janet Barr is hoping to attract new volunteers over time.

The continued existence of the store had been in doubt as Highway 7 CDC decided to wind down its operations, but with Community Living stepping in, the Treasure Trunk will continue on as before.
