Local Fare

During the summer months, the Frontenac News will be profiling local restaurants.
This week’s profiled communities are Sydenham, Plevna and the winding country roads between Plevna and Cloyne.

PLEVNA and Surrounding Area

Canadian Shield Restaurant

With a sprawling view of the golf course, Canadian Shield Restaurant provides a secluded and picturesque atmosphere for its diners.

The Menu includes a little something for everyone, from munchy food, to light lunches  to a wide variety of entrés. Lunch meals range from $5.95 to $9.95 for the Philly Cheese Steak Special, a fresh sandwich roll filled with sautéed roast beef, peppers, and onions, topped with cheese with choice of salad or fries. Dinner is usually priced around the $15 range with the Honey Mustard Chicken meal including roasted red pepper and onions with a stuffed potato for $16.95.

Fernleigh Lodge

10 minutes south of Plevna on highway 506 lies Ferleigh Lodge and the Fernleigh lodge reservation only restaurant, serving all you can eat set meals every night of the week.

Fernleigh’s most favored meal is the Sunday Night special, a four course Chicken Dinner with all the trimmings, coffee or tea for $18.00 including tax.

North of 7 Restaurant

Located on Highway 506 right in Plevna, North of 7 Restaurant provides a family oriented menu complete with daily specials, homemade soups and pizzas.

Weekday specials help keep customers familiar with the menu, specials such as Monday’s lunch special of Cream of Potato soup and a Toasted Western for $6.95. The Dinner Special includes a half a chicken, small garden salad, potato and a roll for $10.95

Owners Donald and Sandy Raycroft are pleased to be creating employment within their community and providing a service for local seniors, not only with the restaurant, but also with the Plevna Freshmart grocery store. (613)-479-2603


SYDENHAM

Mill Street Café

Located in Downtown Sydenham, The Mill Street Café serves dishes that are as local and seasonal as possible.

Always mixing it up a little, the Café’s menu varies depending on the in season produce and the creativity of Chef Paul Pisa.

Main Courses are usually priced in the $15 to $25 range and include such items as the garden vegetable soup, goats cheese salad with blueberry vinaigrette, pork tenderloin with herb jus jasmine rice and pineapple chutney or the cashew and coconut tempeh with curry vegetables. . Always including a vegetarian dish on the list, Mill Street café also has a wine list to compliment its dishes, including a variety of organic beer and wine.

Owners Pat and Rick Dawson, who also own and run Dessert Lake Gardens , had the ambition to run a Café with a menu meant to showcase seasonal and local foods, and to offer a refreshing variety!  (613) 376-6672

Trios Grill and Take Out

Located at the Wheatley and George Intersection in Sydenham, Trios Grill and Take Out provides an all purpose menu for everyone.

Trios offers classics such as their burgers, breakfasts, and pasta but is most favored for their Pizza. For instance their large all dressed pizza. 8 slices of delicious crust covered in cheese pepperoni, mushrooms, green peppers, sausage and bacon for 20.55 plus tax.
